Description
Over the last 10 days, I have made between 60 and 70 contributions to Trac’s issue tracker, modifying a wiki page and fixing, triaging and contributing to various tickets. The wiki page edit and a few ticket modifications were lost due to a major bug tracked in ticket #13888.
Unfortunately, at least 3 more ticket modifications/comments vanished even after Trac reported saving them. As notifications have been broken for all that period, I unfortunately did not receive a copy of my contributions. However, a custom query sorting tickets by their last modification time helps spotting damaged tickets. For example, it shows ticket #3204 as modified 10 days ago, but when inspecting the ticket, we see that no modification from the last 19 years has survived.
I looked over the last year of ticket modifications and could not spot more damaged tickets than the following 3:
All of the above 3 were performed by myself. In the first 2 cases, they were performed on 2026-02-18 and were lost within 20 hours. However, #3 was performed on 2026-02-20T06:59:11Z. Yet, the timeline shows multiple surviving modifications performed between #1 and #3, so this cannot be explained by a simple hardware crash / database rollback.
I believe only one of my comments/modifications is missing in each of the above tickets. In ticket #8786, the missing comment was posted at 2026-02-18T23:01:29Z.
Together with issue #13888, this could be a major factor explaining why, when excluding 2 anonymous comments, this issue tracker only shows contributions from 6 people in 2025, despite the Trac project’s high importance.
Be warned when investigating this that this website’s display of dates and times has a major bug, tracked in #13890. This report is not merely based on timestamp discrepancies; I have a clear memory of the missing contributions. I do not remember anything particular in common between the contributions which vanished.
