+1 to adding the numbers to the legend.
The extra info for the timeline is interesting, but it might clutter it up — now 3 lines to scan for every changeset instead of 2 in timeline view.

See my last comment on #813: if we split the current legend into a legend for file changes and a legend for diff changes, we could even include the count for files in the first one, and the count of diffs in the second one (either the global count, or repeating the legend for each file, getting the diff stat per file, we'll see what looks best).

I think the file counts will definitely be useful. I'm interested to see the diff counting.. not sure how that will look or how useful. It has the potential to be confusing.

File counting added in r4668. The diff counting was not done, however.
Yes, why not.
The numbers could actually be placed in parenthesis and integrated in the legend. This could perhaps be done at the same time as #813?
OTOH, the "files added 5, modified 1." text message could be nice to have in the timeline view.
