Description
it would be nice if, when logged in and assigning a ticket to one's self, the ticket is immediately accepted, so that it is not necessary to scroll down again and accept the ticket.

Yeah, it's exactly what I thought too, see ticket #2045 for a patch.
However, for some teams (TracTeam included), "accepted" means "I've started working on this issue" rather than "I've accepted to work on this issue", so doing automatically the switch to accepted is not always wanted, even if one has created the ticket: it might be some kind of reminder to do something at a later time.
