Using this site (the public pre0.8 edgewall site) I just tested with Thunderbird 0.9 against the timeline rss feed and the Tickets for 0.8 {17} feeds, and both worked great.
So it worksforme…

The feed validator has this to say about the timeline RSS feed:
http://feedvalidator.org/images/valid-rss.png
and this about the RSS feed for {18} (other reports exceeded the maximum feed length of the validator):

So I'm closing this ticket.

Realize this is closed, but I just managed to recreate this: Thunderbird 0.9 gives this message when you give it an RSS feed that REQUIRES AUTHENTICATION. Important missing detail in original report. Anyway it's fixed in Thunderbird 1.0rc1, so whatever…

I realized later it could be due to authentication or https.
I tried to search the mozilla project about it, but did not find the right resources.
Thanks confirming this !

RSS needs to be a first class ROLE in securty
the workaround is to make REPORT_VIEW, TIMELINE_VIEW, and a few others "anonymous" when authentication is enforced.
it works in t-bird and firefox because of the relationship of the cookies.
If you dont mind your reports and timeline open to public, you can cut off the wiki and a few other things, but the real solution is to hack the RSS code as its own security role.

I don't see what this has to do with the original ticket, nor do I really understand what you're talking about. But I suspect you should look at #540.
It'd help if you could show which RSS feed is invalid.
