Description
Right now there must be a default component. Experience shows that users often forget to select a component, and no component group in our organization is willing to field all the unmodified tickets.
Please create an option to make the default component null, and to require input before the ticket is submitted.

To not close a ticket without an explanation. Moreover, fixed implies that some code or doc has been changed.

should be "worksforhim" … think this is a good enough solution?

"worksforme" works for me. I marked it "fixed" because I discovered a feature in Trac which makes it behave exactly as desired, but far be it from me to quibble.
Sure wish I could have attracted this much attention when I filed the ticket! :)
I have worked around this by creating a default component whose name is " ". If it stays selected, Trac complains that the field "component" must be set.
