Especially when you have many repositories showing changesets is very slow. Even here on timeline disabling all repositories makes quite a difference.
Disabling every single repository manually is very tedious, especially as this is reset frequently at least for unauthenticated users.

I suppose we could have an option similar to
[search]
default_disabled_filters
. There is less motivation for the feature because the timeline filters are stored in session data, whereas the search filters are not. However, it could be valuable for anonymous users, as you noted. PatchWelcome.
