TracD with STunnel is very slow

Description
I am using Trac 0.9.6 with the Trac daemon on Windows and STunnel 4.15 on Windows to provide SSL for the Trac sites. I have 5 Trac sites configured on the Trac daemon with their own repository.
When a user clicks Login, Logout, or any other 'HTTP post' action the sites respond very slow. Somtimes the action is completed after a timeout of 1 minute or more. Sometimes the actions results in a 'page not found' but when the user presses refresh the action seems to have completed normally (the user is logged in for instance). Normal page requests a responded to in a normal timely fashion.
When accessing the sites with STunnel responds is normal.
