#13030 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Roboto font

Description

Since [15523#file8] Trac CSS uses font-family: Roboto,Segoe UI,Verdana,'Bitstream Vera Sans',Helvetica,sans-serif;.

On Windows Segoe UI looks good and is available by default, while Roboto is generally not available. But when some users randomly get the Roboto font installed (by unrelated software) it is surprising to them that Trac looks different unexpectedly.

Could Roboto font be removed from Trac CSS, or is it expected that some other common operating system provides this by default? Then maybe Segoe UI could be prioritized over Roboto?

Version: 1.3dev

I suggest closing as wontfix. That behavior is expected since the user installs Roboto font. Why the user has installed Roboto font if Roboto font is unexpectedly used?

Resolution: wontfix
Status: newclosed

Replying to Jun Omae:

I suggest closing as wontfix.

Also the behavior can be overridden in TracInterfaceCustomization#SiteAppearance.

Can I suggest using @font-face in order to embed Roboto fonts direclty on the trac website?

New trac fonts rendering seems pretty bad on Windows without it…

The user did not. Please read the description:

Actually only Roboto Light got installed, but used for everything on Trac, looking very unexpected.

If non-standard fonts can be overriden by customizations, why not leave the default at a nice standard font like Segoe UI?

But nevermind. I opened this ticket because the term "Roboto" was not found on the entire Trac website otherwise. So at least the next time some user gets into this confusing situation a search can find this information.

That is wrong. At least, Roboto-Regular, Roboto-Italic, Roboto-Bold and Roboto-BoldItalic should be installed.
