 After the installation, don't forget to add the path to the directory where you chose to install Python to your PATH environment variable.  This is important to be able to run the Python executable from any directory in the command line.

+To update your path on 'Windows XP:

+ * Choose Start, Settings, Control Panel, and double-click System. 
+ * Choose the Advanced tab
+ * Click the Environment Variables button
+ * Select PATH and click the Edit button
+ * Add the directory where you installed Python to the end of the string. (A semicolon separates elements of the PATH.  Add one before the Python directory if there isn't already one at the end of the PATH.)
