selected custom property value does not show up in ticket

Description
i have following custom property configured in trac.ini
[ticket-custom] hw_version = select hw_version.label = Hardware Version hw_version.options = |devel|future|A.01|A.02 hw_version.value =
whatever value is selected, the property value doesnt show up in the ticket (yellow box)
it does show up in the ticket change history. the drop down box in change properties shows the selected value too.
this happens using trunk r1742, python 2.3, mod_python
(it does work using 0.8)
