Description

Despite the fact that When We Were Warriors is set during World War II, ongoing battles nevertheless have an impact on people all over the world today. While some, like Syria and Afghanistan, are routinely covered by the press, we hear less about other, more protracted and brutal conflicts, including those in Kashmir, Western Sahara, and Columbia. Reading books about war can help us become more informed and open-minded. The Bone Sparrow by Zana Fraillon draws attention to the Rohingya community's suffering in Myanmar, which is now thought to be the region experiencing the world's fastest-growing refugee crisis.
