Copy-editing is a more thorough process than proofreading as it pays attention to improving the flow, quality of wording, sentence structure and readability of the text. This ensures the writing is clearer, consistent, concise and more engaging.

Even if you’re an excellent writer it’s easy to construct sentences with awkward phrasing, use more words than necessary or target the wrong audience.

​Having your work proofread by a fresh pair of trained eyes will avoid costly mistakes slipping through. I make sure your material is finalised and ready to publish, submit or print.

This service corrects spelling mistakes, typos, punctuation and grammar errors, and formatting inconsistencies. I also check consistency of tense, subject–verb agreement, capitalisation and hyphenation.

This level of editing is the most complex stage of the editorial process and is more in-depth than copy-editing because it looks at the bigger picture to make sure the piece is coherent as a whole.

For fiction I look at structure, plot, pace, characterisation, storyline inconsistencies and continuity. For non-fiction, presentation, structure and style are checked and improved.
