Many of those who want to study abroad think that they need to send documents in the summer immediately before the start of their studies. But this is a big misconception.
Yes, usually prospective students can apply until the end of July, but with admission to a foreign university, the situation is different.
And it will vary from country to country.
Particular attention should be paid to those who are going to enter the bachelor's program, with deadlines for the master's program becoming more free.
Let's analyze the application deadlines using the example of several countries:
So, the earliest application for bachelor's programs is perhaps in this country.
The Common App portal for admission directly to the 1st year of the American Baccalaureate opens in August, and the first deadlines are already in December. Some universities accept applications through the Common App until mid-January, after which the submission closes.
It is important to understand that you can apply for 1 undergraduate course in America only through the Common App portal.
The exception is a few universities that accept applications through providers, some of them can apply until June, but there are few such universities.
Therefore, you need to apply for an American baccalaureate about a year before the start of training, and prepare a package of documents even earlier. You may be tormented by the question of who can paying someone to write college essay, but do not worry, the specialists will take care of you.
Master's programs in the US can be applied directly through university portals, and here the timing depends on the specific program and university.
Most often, the filing also begins a year before the start of studies, and closes in December-March or goes on a rolling basis, that is, to fill the places.
For the 1st year of undergraduate studies in the UK, submission takes place through a single portal - UCAS. You can also send documents for the next academic year in about 12 months, that is, in September, and the submission of applications will close in January.
This applies to all applications for the 1st year of the British Baccalaureate.
That is, for example, if you want to enter a British university for the 1st year in 2024, you need to start preparing documents from the summer of 2023.
You can apply for foundation programs until the summer, but applications to higher-ranking universities may close in April as well.
At most universities, applications for master's programs are based on filling places with no clear deadlines.
For the 1st year of undergraduate studies, you can start applying around the middle or end of autumn, that is, again, about a year before the start of training.
In Dutch universities, everything is very variable, the application is submitted through a common portal - StudieLink, but universities set different deadlines. Most often, the deadline for submission is early to mid-January, but there are also programs that are accepted until April.
As a rule, in the spring, all universities close the acceptance of applications for admission.
Everything is strict with the master's program here, the submission also goes through StudieLink and deadlines may close in February, March, April.
There are also foundation programs in the Netherlands, such as preparation for undergraduate studies, you can apply for them until the beginning of June.
Applying to Canada for undergraduate and graduate programs goes through the portals of the universities themselves and also opens about a year before the start of studies.
In a large number of universities, mostly high-ranking ones, the submission closes in early to mid-January.
There are universities with March submission deadlines. Since the end of March, most likely you will find almost no options for admission to the 1st year of university in Canada.
The exception is associate programs - these are two-year programs, after which you can go to the 3rd year of undergraduate studies.
On some of these programs, applications are accepted until June.
Application to French universities for both undergraduate and graduate programs opens later than in the above countries - approximately in January-February and goes until the end of spring-beginning of summer.
But here is another pitfall - applying for a visa and partly to the university itself must go through CampusFrance, the registration center for French universities.
In 2022, CampusFrance closed the submission in mid-March.
Here, applying to the university is possible from the end of autumn and goes until March-April of the year of admission.
In Italy, it is quite difficult to find a bachelor's degree in English; applications for such rare programs will go until spring.
Some universities also have foundation programs where you can apply until June.
In the Italian master's program, the application begins in January-February and goes until March-April.
You can also apply for a bachelor's degree here until spring, but keep in mind that for admission you need 1 completed course in your country if you study according to the 11-year education system.
You can apply for a master's degree until July.
When preparing for admission to any country, it should be borne in mind that before applying directly, you need to set aside time to prepare the necessary documents: basic documents, motivation letters, CVs, recommendations, language exams, and so on.
Therefore, we advise you to prepare for admission to any of the countries at least a year before the start of the program.
