This is the Hebrew translation of some Trac Terms.
The point of this page is to help a future Hebrew-localized version of Trac.

Note that translation work for he_HE is already in-progress, please see #9040.

Guidelines and Considerations

• It is favorable to "force" Hebrew terms (e.g. "טראק" for "Trac", "טיקט" for "Ticket" etc.)
  • Pro: No nasty RTL phenomena when typing Hebrew-only text (word & line ordering misbehavior)
  • Con: Looks weird… (maybe just need to get used to it?)
• Sentences that address the user as "you" (singular or plural) are translated using male-form (אתה, אתם).
• Terms with actions ("search", "submit", "view", "browse"..) are translated using the command-form (הוריה) or the noun-form (שם פעולה), according to context (e.g. "חיפוש" לעומת "חפש", "שליחה" לעומת "שלח")

Specific Terms Discussion

There are several terms that have no "natural" counterparts in Hebrew.
This section is meant to discuss those terms, and if needed - invent words for them.

It is desired to come up with tech-oriented and matching-register words, in order to match the intended audience.

Source Browser

TracGuide says the following about the term "Source Browser" (TracBrowser):

The Trac repository browser can be used to browse specific revisions of directories and files stored in the repository of the configured version control system.

Itamarost: Since the repository is not used solely for source code, using "סייר קוד" is not exact, but this is true also for the original term… An alternative might be "סייר קבצים" (translates back to "file browser"), which indeed describes the actual use-case, but drifts somewhat from the original term.

Subject

In Trac permissions, a subject is either a username or a group, which is the object for which permissions are managed.

Itamarost: Lacking ideas, I started using "סובייקט", which is definitely not a good idea.

Component

TracGuide says the following about the word component (TracTickets#TicketFields):

The project module or subsystem this ticket concerns

Itamarost: The most generic Hebrew term that matches this is "מרכיב", but it seems a little too generic. A more specific term might be "מודול" (which translates back to "module"), but this loses the "subsystem" meaning originally intended.

Changeset

Wikipedia says the following about the word changeset (​wikipedia:changeset):

In revision control, changesets are a way to group a number of modifications that are relevant to each other in one atomic package, that may be canceled or propagated as needed.

Itamarost: That's why I think "קבוצת שינויים" is a rather direct translation for the term. What I don't like is the breaking of the term into two words. I think it is preferable to invent a shorter and more concise term at a matching register.

Repository

Wikipedia says the following about the word repository (​wikipedia:Revision_control#Common_vocabulary):

The repository is where files' current and historical data are stored, often on a server.

Itamarost: After a first attempt with "מאגר-קוד", the suggestion "מצבור" came up, which translates back to "store" (e.g. "a store of code").

Toggle

Toggling is showing a hidden object or hiding a visible object.

Itamarost: An exact term would be "מיתוג", but it seems somewhat off. I chose to use "הצג / הסתר" (translates back as "show / hide"), which is quite self-explanatory, but less concise.
