Ilias, this is something that will be automated once we have #4126; in the meantime, we try to manually write the version currently in use in the corresponding milestone page, but I agree that's easy to forget (writing it manually in the footer wouldn't be any more error prone)...

So worksforme sort of, as we already have a procedure for that. Now we should stick to it ;)

What it looks to you (a developer, familar with the product/instance) is not that relevant.

I'm talking in context of usability (a user, visitor, not familar with the product/instance).

additionally, the version information is visible in the footer in estimated > 95% of the trac-instances, thus users expect it there.

ok, but this really related to the version-number on t.e.o (thus Component project), where the original template was modified to _not_ include the version-number

In r4420, the detailed Trac version information will be shown in the About / System Information page. If the Trac package has been built with setuptools, the revision number will be visible there (as opposed to the footer which has only the "main" version information).
