problem sorting custom query results

Description
when doing a custom query without a query criteria, sorting the results doesnt work
steps to reproduce:
- click in View Tickets
- click on Custom Query
- click on Search (without selecting a criteria)
- click on any header on the results page (e.g. Summary)
the results doesnt get sorted as expected. you get back to the custom query page.
